An antique pine mantel with unique braces is restored using
wider 4x12 mantel and supporting 2x10 header. Vertical side posts are pegged to cover the
screws. Level hearth is bordered with 8-inch pine trim that matches the pine-planked
floor. The homemade country door is painted white in this room to denote a little more
formality as shown also with the use of wallpaper on some walls. Also, the exposed beams
and horizontal paneling are painted. This method of changing the treatment of
architectural features within each room makes that room have its own character.
